Labor pledges boost for VCA
The Victorian and Federal Governments have announced a multi million dollar funding boost for the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA).
A review of the VCA found the college needs at least an extra $6 million a year to survive.
The State Government has announced a one-off grant of $3 million.
Labor's candidate for Federal seat of Melbourne Cath Bowtell says if the government is re-elected, it will commit and extra $5.1 million to the VCA from 2012.
She says the party will also match a $2 million pledge from the State Government to set up a foundation trust.
"If Labor is re-elected and if we are in a position to have the negotiations with the University then the intention is that this Federal Government money would be directed towards delivering the teaching programs of the college," she said.
